The name Šotovento comes from the Italian words “šoto” - below and “vento” - wind, i.e. under the wind or leeward. Šotovento is located under several small peaks that create natural protection from the bora. Protection from the bora and orientation to the south and west, sunny side, have favored the development of lush vegetation.
