On the site of the former Tarsatica, the city of Reka (today's Rijeka) developed in the 13th century with towers, shops and streets, which would belong to the Habsburgs from 1466 with minor interruptions until 1918. Today's Trsat extends from the old town of Trsat (Gradina) to the former barracks (today's university campus) and to Strmica to the north.
