Rijeka is the largest Croatian port, the third largest city in the Republic of Croatia and the administrative center of the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County. Rijeka was developed by the Hungarian government in the 18th and 19th centuries into one of the largest European ports and a powerful industrial center due to its ideal geographical location and the depth of the sea in the Kvarner Bay. The Rijeka bura is also known on the Adriatic, a cold and dry wind from the northeast that has a beneficial effect on the purity of the Rijeka air.
