In the 3rd century, the city already had an organized Christian community and an early Christian church complex. The Christian community almost completely disappeared at the time of Emperor Diocletian, when the Poreč martyrs St. Mauro and St. Eleutheria. St. According to legend, Eleutherije was tied to a stone and thrown into the sea in Peškera bay. Today, right next to the bay, there is a small church of St. Eleutheria from the 15th century.
