The name Sušak (Sussach) was first mentioned in a document dated 14 April 1822 for the area from Marganovo to Pećine and in the north to the old road to Trsat. The story that Sušak got its name because the Fiumans used to dry their clothes there is part of folk etymology because the laundry was on Školjić (Scoglieto) where there was enough space for drying clothes and it would be absurd to go by ferry, and later by bridge across the border to dry clothes.
