In the summer of 2004, I returned from a business trip abroad. I thought it was just another trip. I had no idea it would open the next big chapter of my life.
When I came back home to Istria, I knew one thing:
“I want freedom.”
Those were the first words I said to my wife Nina, before I had even put my bags down.
She knew exactly what I meant.
That was the moment Maris Real Estate was born.
What does freedom have to do with running a real estate agency?
For us, freedom means the sea, charming stone houses, homemade olive oil, Istrian hills, nearby ski resorts and lively summer days under the Mediterranean sun.
But it also means working with people we genuinely enjoy working with.
We are not a big agency — and that is intentional. We value the family atmosphere within our team and the close relationship we have with our clients, many of whom eventually become part of the wider Maris family.
Maybe that is one of the main reasons we still truly love what we do.
Our goal is for Istria to become home to positive people from different countries and cultures who appreciate its beauty, lifestyle and stories.
We know that finding a home is one of the most important decisions you will ever make. Our job is to help you find your own piece of freedom while making the entire process as simple and stress-free as possible.
Over nearly two decades, we have seen markets rise and fall, faced challenges and continuously improved the way we work.
But one thing has never changed: our personal approach.
We realised early on that becoming a large agency could mean sacrificing the quality and tailored service we want to be remembered for.
That was never a compromise we were willing to make.
We are still here today because we genuinely care about our clients and their needs.
Every day, we try to be a little better, listen a little more, help whenever we can and treat people the way we would want to be treated ourselves.
I once heard that the meaning of life can be measured by the number of people who benefited from your existence.
That thought stayed with me.
It became my guiding philosophy.
And without a doubt, that is what I would like to be remembered for.
